A Drama Studio of One’s Own

The arts are one of the most important ways young people can express themselves and in so doing, help buoy their mental and emotional health.  And as Imelda Staunton said during the opening of a drama studio at La Sainte Union Catholic School in her name, science students get to practice in their laboratories, so drama students should have a space of their own — and not just the school canteen when it’s not busy feeding the school.  I was asked by the wonderful drama teacher, Sarah O’Keefe, to photograph this fantastic event at which there was a short performance from Macbeth, then Ms Staunton gave a talk about her own experiences at the school and in her career as an actor.  She also took the time to speak to every young woman in that room, as well as former students and staff.  It was a privilege to meet one of my favourite British actresses and to photograph this very special event.
