I’ve been to Westminster Palace few times, but last month was the first as a photographer (and when I’d been in those committee rooms in a writing capacity, I was dying to take some pictures). The new right-leaning think tank, Policy North put on a drinks party to launch their first policy document, Global North, a report which details the organisation’s prescriptions that would allow the North of England to grow faster and more sustainably after Brexit. In attendance were Policy North’s staff, the think tank’s backers as well as invited guests who were provided with a copy of the report. And talk about a fantastic backdrop! Before the event, I was told by a Palace officer that photographing on the terrace was actually forbidden, though I was allowed to take pictures from within the tented structure. That’s like asking me to shoot with one arm — so difficult, but I did manage to get what I think are some nice images of the London Eye and the old City Hall building.
