Last Moments of Winter

It’s been a wet, grey winter in Kew Gardens — which isn’t necessarily a terrible thing.  In fact, in terms of photography, I feel that taking pictures this season has metaphorically reflected the emotional malaise of many of us despairing of Brexit, the new US president, the continuing tragedy in Syria among other pressing anxieties.  There’s a melancholy in the damp, a fog in the ether, a certain closing in of life.  My wish for global instability and reactionary thinking is that new life will be born.  We know this is a certainty in the Gardens, perhaps less so in the world.
