Rarely a week goes by that we don’t hear a radio or TV program about the so-called gig economy — people who are self-employed either out of choice or necessity. I’m one of the sub-tribes who now have an ‘encore career’, in which I take pictures for a living. Though there’s not much in the way of security about this, after two and a half years, I’m still finding it rather incredible that I get to spend most of my days doing the thing that I’d do if I could do anything at all that I wanted. How great is that? And for all those, young and older, who have embarked on their small business quest, I often get to help by taking photos for their websites. I’ve done this for a fitness trainer, a boutique sushi restaurant, a performing arts school and most recently a tennis/netball instructor. I can’t tell you the satisfaction it brings me to help out a budding entrepreneur because I know how great it feels!
